Police now believe two cats found dead in Bracknell over the last two weeks were deliberately killed by people, rather than animals.
Officers investigating the discovery of a cat's remains in a garden in Pyegrove Chase, near a public footpath, between August 17 and 18 and a cat found dead in Chisbury Close on August 13, now think the two could be linked.
They are now treating the second incident in Pyegrove Chase as a criminal act.
After initially believing the cat found in Chisbury Close could have been killed by another animal, they now think an offender or offenders were responsible.
PCSO Anthony Mellish of the Bracknell Neighbourhood Policing Team, who is investigating the incidents, said: "We are conducting a thorough investigation to find out what has happened in these incidents.
"I would encourage pet owners in the area to try to be aware of where their pets are and when they are let out of the house.
"Anyone with any information which they think could help this investigation should contact police on the non-emergency number 101."
