A BUMPER year saw record numbers people tread the tracks of a nature reserve for a popular half marathon.

More than 1,000 people took part in the 35th Burnham Beeches Half Marathon, running through the picturesque location in Farnham Common.

The event, organised by Burnham Joggers running club, also included a new 10km race which proved to be a big hit among runners.

Deputy race director Tony Clish said: "It all went really well.

"We had record entry levels for recent years as we welcomed over 1,000 people which was fantastic.

"The 10km race was well received as it gave runners the option of doing a shorter route.

"The weather as just about perfect for August. It is always a bit of a risk whether it it going to be too hot but it was a bit overcast which was appreciated by everyone."

Slough Observer:

The race, which started at Caldicott School in Farnham Common, included two laps of an undulating course through the Beeches.

The event also raised money for Burnham charity Padstones, and runners were cheered on around the course with this year's theme being 'Natural Runner', as well as club members who marshalled the course wearing the Olympic Games Maker jerseys to mark the Olympic Games in Rio.

Mr Clish said plans are already underway for next year's event.

He said: We have got a date agreed for August 13 next year, and we will be opening entries for it in the next few weeks.

"It was a new team that put it together this year so we are going through a detailed review on what we thought went well and what we need to improve.

"Parking is a challenge and we want to minimise the impact on the village, so we get as many people parked at the school and we have an agreement with Huntswood Farm."
